Walk 247: Nast Hyde Halt Loop

3.8 miles (6.2km) with 5m of total ascent

Nast Hyde Halt on The Alban Way
Nast Hyde Halt on The Alban Way
We have created this short loop to enable walkers to explore the lovingly restored Nast Hyde Halt along The Alban Way, the route of the former Hatfield to St Albans railway line. You will start at Smallford Station, pass Nast Hyde Halt, then loop around Ellenbrook Fields, which is the site of the former Hatfield Aerodrome. There is one short stretch along the western edge of Hatfield and past the university, but you are soon into open fields with excellent views.

Walk 184: Tyttenhanger Green Loop

This walk includes a section of The Alban Way which is the route of the former Hatfield to St Albans branch line. If you are interested in the history of the Hatfield to St Albans branch line we have embedded a video at the foot of these directions. The route for this walk passes close to two pubs, both called The Plough, one in Sleapshyde and the other in Tyttenhanger Green. The start of the walk is 3.5 miles WSW of Hatfield station by road. You will be aware of the A414 for much of this walk.

Walk 42: North Mymms to Hatfield North-West Linear

7.1 miles (11.4 km) with 49m total ascent

This walks starts at Brookmans Park station, heads over to Water End, turns north along the A1(M) to the village of Roestock, over to Sleapshyde, then ends at Hatfield station where you can catch a train back to the starting point.

We have archived this walk following feedback from a regular user of Hertfordshire Walker saying the crossing of the A414 is too dangerous. Please choose a different walk from the collection of 300 free walks. We will eventually replace Walk 42 with a new route.
