Walk 265: Brookmans Park North-East Long Loop

This is one of the longest walks in our collection and was created for those who enjoy a full-day walk of almost 20 miles. You will pass two examples of WWII archaeology - a Tett turret and a spigot mortar emplacement. There are several pubs and cafes along the way. This route crosses a golf course and involves walking over two fairways.

This walk follows a request from a Hertfordshire Walker user called Robert who leads a walking group. He's used our walks before and wanted a shorter version of Walk 34, that starts and finishes at The Five Horseshoes in Little Berkhamsted. So we have merged parts of several existing walks on our site. If you have any requests for new routes to be created please let us know using the site's contact form.

Walk 115: Hertfordshire Marathon Loop

We created this walk following a request from friends who asked us to create a 26-mile circular walk through the Hertfordshire countryside which they could use to raise funds for the National Autistic Society They wanted a marathon-length circular walk along footpaths, bridleways, byways and lanes. The Hertfordshire Marathon Loop is designed for anyone who wants to walk a marathon in aid of charity. This walk can be started and finished at any point along the way, and we have routed it past both Brookmans Park Station and Welham Green Station for those wanting to reach the start point by train.

Walk 67: Kentish Lane Loop

A circular walk enjoying the secluded paths and woodlands of the undulating countryside between Essendon, Howe Green, Little Berkhamsted, Epping Green, and Wildhill. The walk passes four pubs. It can be muddy in places after rain. The route crosses a golf course.

Walk 53: Essendon East Loop

6.5 miles (10.5 km) with 194m total ascent

This walk from Essendon heads to Howe Green then on to Bayford before passing Little Berkhamsted then looping back to Essendon. The route crosses Essendon golf course twice and includes a fair amount of up and down. There are two pubs along the way.

Walk 34: Essendon South Loop

6 miles (9.6 km) with 186m total ascent

This walk is a combination of two of our shorter walks which links the paths around Wildhill to those north-east of Little Berkhamsted. You might get muddy if you are walking after rain because there are two paths along the way that can get churned up. There are some nice views between points 7 and 8.

Walk 25: Little Berkhamsted North-East Loop

4.3 miles (7 km) with 137m total ascent

A pleasant walk from Little Berkhamsted village through fields and woodland over to Bayford. The walk includes open fields, shady woodland, footpaths, bridleways and has the benefit of a pub and village shop at the start/finish. Some parts of the route are along lanes where there is no footpath/pavement.

Walk 20: Essendon Loop

3.7 miles (6 km) with 106m total ascent

This walk explores the rolling countryside east of Essendon then loops through Little Berkhamsted where there are two options for refreshments. You will cross Essendon golf course twice, walking across four fairways. Although short you will climb the equivalent of a 35-storey building.

Walk 11: West End Loop

6.1 miles (9.8 km) with 215m total ascent

This undulating walk along footpaths, byways and quiet lanes taking in woodland, rivers, and open spaces involves a lot of up and down with a total elevation gain of almost 400ft.

Walk 7: Little Berkhamsted North-West Loop

2.2 miles (3.5 km) with 54m total ascent

This is an excellent walk which includes a spectacular stretch of bridleway, a sandy path edged in gorse, and rich woodland. Don't be put off by the golf course and quarry along the way, you are soon past them. You will follow a picturesque and well-worn path linking Howe Green and Little Berkhamsted,with oak trees that must be hundreds of years old.

Walk 4: Epping Green Short Loop

2.2 miles (3.5 km) with 35m total ascent

This is a gentle stroll along footpaths between Little Berkhamsted and Epping Green. The route is through undulating countryside and twisting woodland paths. A few parts of the walk can be a muddy after rain.
