Walk 279: Great Offley South-East Loop

This is a lovely walk with long stretches where you might feel you have escaped from civilisation with just the sound of birdsong and the odd plane overhead. It starts outside The Red Lion in the village of Great Offley then passes The Plough at Ley Green close to the halfway point before looping back over undulating fields with wide open views. The Dream Bean Cafe is a 850m drive south of the start/finish point.

Walk 172: Breachwood Green North-East Loop

This is a lovely walk that takes in parts of three other routes in our collection but walked in reverse and creating a wholly different experience. It is so good we even considered doing it the following day. We had a lovely pint at The Plough in Ley Green at the halfway point.

The walk crosses Kingswalden Park, where there are an estimated 300 oak trees, many about 400 years old. One is called the Domesday Oak because it is thought to be more than 1,000 years old. This walk across the rolling Chiltern Hills (be ready for some steep up and down) starts and finishes at The Red Lion in Breachwood Green, where we have enjoyed refreshments on previous walks. You will hear the sound of air traffic taking off and landing at nearby Luton airport, but it's worth putting up with for the views across open countryside that this walk offers.

Walk 152: Breachwood Green North Loop

This is a lovely walk through the rolling countryside east of Luton airport. There are a couple of footpaths which were overgrown when we did this walk in July 2021. We always carry a stick and a pair of secateurs to push back any nettles or cut back any overhanging brambles. Long trousers would probably be a good idea. All the footpaths were passable when we did the walk.

Walk 107: Preston West Loop

5.6 miles (9km) with 112m of total ascent

This walk follows well-defined paths over rolling north Hertfordshire countryside and through some pretty hamlets. The walk cuts through Wain Wood, a site of scientific interest. It starts and finishes close to The Red Lion pub/restaurant.
