Walk 202: Breachwood Green North-West Loop

We have added this walk because we found out that there are plans for a solar farm in the area and we wanted to take the chance to enjoy the rolling Hertfordshire countryside before the landscape changes.

The walk starts and finishes at The Red Lion in Breachwood Green and is one of four walks that start and finish in the village. It passes close to three other pubs along the way. You will be walking close to Luton airport, so you will hear the planes taking off and landing during the walk.

We didn't see any livestock along the route. The start/finish point is 4.6 miles E from Luton railway station by road.

Walk 176: Breachwood Green Short Loop

We created this walk following a request for a shorter version of Walk 172, the Breachwood Green NE Loop (6.1 miles). This route misses out the hamlet of Ley Green and, instead, cuts through the beautiful Kingswalden Park. There are an estimated 300 oak trees in the park, many about 400 years old. One is called the Domesday Oak because it is thought to be more than 1,000 years old.

This walk across the rolling Chiltern Hills - be ready for some steep up and down - starts and finishes at The Red Lion in Breachwood Green, where we have enjoyed refreshments on previous walks. You will hear the sound of air traffic taking off and landing at nearby Luton airport, but it's worth putting up with for the views across open countryside that this walk offers.

Walk 172: Breachwood Green North-East Loop

This is a lovely walk that takes in parts of three other routes in our collection but walked in reverse and creating a wholly different experience. It is so good we even considered doing it the following day. We had a lovely pint at The Plough in Ley Green at the halfway point.

Walk 153: Breachwood Green South Loop

5.8 miles (9.4 km) with 138m of total ascent

We really enjoyed this walk because of the mix of wide byways, winding footpaths, and quiet country lanes - with great views throughout. There is a pub, The Red Lion, close to the start and finish point, and a pub, The Bright Star, at the halfway point.

Walk 152: Breachwood Green North Loop

6.1 miles (9.9km) with 151m of total ascent

This is a lovely walk through the rolling countryside east of Luton airport. There are a couple of footpaths which were overgrown when we did this walk in July 2021. We always carry a stick and a pair of secateurs to push back any nettles or cut back any overhanging brambles. Long trousers would probably be a good idea. All the footpaths were passable when we did the walk.
