This is a wonderful walk over high rolling countryside with magnificent views. It follows well-defined rights of way including some lovely old tree-lined byways and holloways. The walk starts and finishes at The Red Lion in Preston.

Walk 276: Preston Loop

3.4 miles (5.5 km) with 78m of total ascent

This is our third walk from the village of Preston. It follows a number of public rights of way that we have not explored before along with two footpaths that appear in one of the other routes but walked in reverse. There are some lovely wide open views along this route which mainly follows well-established footpaths, bridleways, and byways.

Walk 108: Preston East Loop

4.3 miles (6.9 km) with 123m total ascent

An undulating walk to the east of Preston taking in some old woodland, following some well-defined paths and tracks, and crossing fields with wide open views. You pass close to two pubs, The Red Lion at Preston and The Rusty Gun at Chapelfoot, pass the ruins of the 14-century Minsden Chapel, and visit Hill End Chalk Pit at the end of the walk.

Walk 107: Preston West Loop

5.6 miles (9km) with 112m of total ascent

This walk follows well-defined paths over rolling north Hertfordshire countryside and through some pretty hamlets. The walk cuts through Wain Wood, a site of scientific interest. It starts and finishes close to The Red Lion pub/restaurant.
