Walk 146: Flamstead West Loop

8.6 miles (13.8 km) with 179m of total ascent

Flamstead footpath 47 between points 7 & 8
Flamstead footpath 47 between points 7 & 8
This is an excellent walk that starts along narrow footpaths and continues along bridleways with wide, open views across the north-west Hertfordshire countryside. There is some great scenery and, when we walked in July 2021 the hedgerows were ablaze with wild flowers. There is a short stretch of lane walking between points 16 and 17, but it's a quiet lane and we were passed by one car only.

  2. Did this walk today . Very much enjoyed it . Mostly off the beaten track and apart from 5 minutes in Markyate and then skirting the school , it was on well defined paths , through fields. woodland and between paddocks . Had a lovely pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord in The Three Blackbirds to end my walk. Longest walk I have tried from the Hertfordshire Walker site and well worth it ..

  3. Another great walk - thanks as always. It was helped by it being a sunny, sunny Easter Sunday :-) Karin above is right: the path at The Coppins is numbered 24. 14 is off the previous road - doesn't matter, though, as they all go to the same place. We also noticed that the footpath signpost at point 10 was unhelpfully on the floor but your photo got us on the right track so thanks again.

    1. Hi Steve, you and Karin are both right - my mistake, sorry. Yes, it is footpath 24, 14 is an earlier one which we were going to take before we changed the route slightly. I have edited the walk to make the correction. Thanks to you both for the feedback. David
