Walk 257: Thundridge East Loop

This walk explores the countryside east of Thundridge and south of the River Rib. It shares a section of bridleway that features in Walk 91: Wadesmill East Loop and also passes the remains of the medieval church of St Mary and All Saints.

Walk 137: Tonwell Loop

This is a lovely walk that heads SW from Tonwell via Chapmore End then W along the River Rib valley to Thundridge and then back via Wadesmill over the hills following the Hertfordshire Way and passing a moated farmstead before heading back to Tonwell.

There used to be a pub at the start/finish point - The Robin Hood and Little John at Tonwell - which is sadly closed, but there is a pub at Chapmore End, The Woodman, with a cafe called The Conservatory and which involves a short detour, and there is a pub in Wadesmill, The Feathers Inn, at the halfway point.

An undulating ramble through some wonderful Hertfordshire countryside following the valley of the River Rib through fields, woodland, across a ford, and through parkland with magnificent trees. You will pass the remains of a medieval church along the way.

Walk 58: The Wadesmill North-West Loop

5.8 miles (9.4 km) with 112m total ascent

This is a lovely walk over undulating countryside with wide open views. There are well-signposted paths and a stretch along a deep cut waterway hidden by woodland and hedgerow. Apart from one short section this is a quiet walk where you will escape the sound of traffic. If you are lucky you might spot a herd of deer, the odd solitary muntjac, herons, kites, and buzzards. Along the way you will pass several signs urging dog owners to keep their pets on a lead. And you will cross a livestock field where you might meet friendly horses. There are two sections of the walk that can be muddy after rain. If you want refreshments there is a pub/restaurant and a cafe in Wadesmill close to the start and finish points.
