This circular walk heads south from Chipperfield Common through woodland and over fields with good views, then on to Sarratt and back via Commonwood Common. The route passes close to six pubs and follows good footpaths and bridleways. There is one 80m stretch along a fairly busy lane, but there is a small pavement for walkers to get out of the way of traffic. We noticed several signs at livestock fields advising dog owners to keep their pets on the lead.

Walk 138: Titmore Green Loop

3 miles (4.7 km) with 52m of total ascent

This is a great walk if you enjoy wide open views across rolling countryside and walking along wooded byways. The walk starts and finishes at the Hermit of Redcoats pub in Titmore Green and follows footpaths and bridleways to the south. Don’t be put off by the proximity of the A1(M), you can’t see it and the noise isn’t bothersome.

Walk 137: Tonwell Loop

5.4 miles (8.6 km) with 117m of total ascent

This is a lovely walk that heads SW from Tonwell via Chapmore End then W along the River Rib valley to Thundridge and then back via Wadesmill over the hills following the Hertfordshire Way and passing a moated farmstead before heading back to Tonwell.

There is a pub at the start/finish point, The Robin Hood and Little John at Tonwell, a pub at Chapmore End, The Woodman, which has a cafe called The Conservatory and which involves a short detour, and a pub in Wadesmill, The Feathers Inn, at the halfway point.

This walk starts in Shenley Park, which has a car park and a Cafe in the Orchard. The car park has an overflow section if it is busy. A sign states that the park is open all year round, but best check opening times on the park’s website. This walk includes a 2.2km section of another walk in our collection, Walk 133: Ridge W Loop (5.1 miles), but in this walk that shared section is walked in reverse, so you can enjoy it from another perspective. Along the way you pass two WWII pillboxes, part of the Outer London Defence Ring.

Walk 134: Furneux Pelham West Loop

6.8 miles (11km) with 97m of total ascent

This is our second walk from Furneux Pelham, this time exploring the countryside to the west. The previous walk, number 130 in our series, explored the countryside to the north and east of this picturesque Hertfordshire village. As with the first walk, refreshments can be taken at The Brewery Tap pub/restaurant, 500m from the start and finish point. This route shares a short section with another walk in our series, Walk 129 Braughing NE Loop.

This is a good walk for those who enjoy wide open views, in this case across the valley of the River Colne towards St Albans. It starts and finishes close to The Old Guinea pub/restaurant in Ridge then follows footpaths and byways across and alongside open fields with a fair bit of up and down along the way.
