Walk 226: Knebworth to Welwyn North Linear

5.2 miles (8.4 km) with 110m of total ascent

This linear walk from Knebworth station to Welwyn North station crosses the A1(M) twice then weaves its way south-west then south-east to the outskirts of old Welwyn where you can take a short detour for refreshments at one of the many pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. Because of the proximity to the motorway you will be aware of the noise of traffic, particularly between points 3 & 5 and 12 & 17, but, if you can try to ignore the sound, the views are rewarding.

Walk 61: Danesbury Park Loop

2.4 miles (3.9 km) with 26m total ascent

This circular walk explores the northern outskirts of old Welwyn. The first part, as the route climbs up to Danesbury Park close to the A1(M), can be noisy. Once through Danesbury Park the route passes some WWII anti-tank obstacles before dropping down to Singlers Marsh Nature Reserve. It then follows the course of the River Mimram, which is one of only 200 chalk bed rivers in the world.

Walk 12: Old Welwyn Loop

4.6 miles (7.4km) with 102m total ascent

This walk starts in a small car park at the eastern end of the Ayot Greenway then crosses some lovely rolling countryside before dropping down to Welwyn, often called Old Welwyn, a village in the valley of the River Mimram, where you will find several pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops selling refreshments. At a few sections of this walk you will be aware of the sound of the A1(M) and there is some urban walking as you enter and leave Welwyn. A couple of sections of the route can be muddy after rain.
