Walk 282: Stanstead Abbotts North-East Loop

This is a wonderful walk from the village of Stanstead Abbotts. You will follow the rivers Ash and Lea, walk along a canal towpath, pass nature reserves popular with birdwatchers so take your binoculars, gaze over peaceful lakes, walk along quiet stretches where you can enjoy uninterrupted birdsong, and follow the route of a dismantled railway branch line.

Walk 244: Stanstead Abbotts South-East Loop

This walk climbs out of the village of Stanstead Abbotts then crosses a high plateau of land before dropping down to the Stort Valley then returning through the picturesque lake area near Roydon Mill, and later cutting through a nature reserve alongside Abbotts Lake before returning to Stanstead Abbotts.

Walk 214: Great Amwell Riverside Loop

This walk follows two riverside long-distance paths. You will head north-west on the New River Path and then south-east along the River Lee Navigation Path. The route passes close to two villages that are named in the Domesday Book, Great Amwell (Emmewell) and Stanstead Abbotts (Stanstede).

Walk 97: Ware South-East Loop

A great walk for anyone who likes canals, barges, locks, quiet woodland paths, walking along the side of secluded rivers, and old Hertfordshire towns. Bird-watchers should take binoculars, because sightings of kingfishers have been reported between points 6 and 8.

The walk starts and finishes in Ware, follows the River Ash NE before heading through Easeye Wood and down to Stanstead Abbotts, and then along the River Lea Navigation back to Ware. There are plenty of opportunities for refreshments in both Ware and Stanstead Abbotts.
